Purchase Savings Plans to Cover Fargate

Opportunity Description:

This Finder analyzes your historical ECS Fargate usage and recommends the optimal AWS Compute Savings Plans to reduce your on-demand costs. AWS Compute Savings Plans offer up to 50% discounts in exchange for committing to a consistent hourly spend for a 1- or 3-year term. However, AWS does not provide Fargate-specific tooling for these recommendations — CloudFix bridges this gap with a fully auditable, automated analysis.

The Finder provides six recommendations across all valid combinations of term (1-year or 3-year) and payment options (No Upfront, Partial Upfront, All Upfront), giving you clear, customizable options for maximizing savings while managing risk.

Criteria for identifying the opportunity:

  • At least 30 days of Fargate usage data is available in AWS Cost and Usage Reports (CUR).

  • Minimum daily spend thresholds are met to ensure meaningful recommendations.

  • Historical Fargate usage is stable enough to model hourly commitment confidently.

  • Recommendations are based on conservative minimum-hourly spend to maximize utilization.

Potential Savings (Annual Estimate):

Savings vary depending on your chosen term and payment option. Based on Fargate’s typical pricing structure:

  • 1-Year No Upfront: Up to ~25% savings

  • 3-Year All Upfront: Up to ~50% savings

The Finder computes total savings, projected utilization, and upfront costs for each configuration so you can choose based on your cost and commitment strategy.

What happens when the Fixer is executed?

This Finder is recommendation-only. It generates detailed purchasing guidance based on your Fargate usage, but does not execute any purchases automatically. You’ll receive a side-by-side comparison of potential savings across six Savings Plan options, and can then use AWS native tools to manually complete any purchases if desired.

Is it possible to roll back once CloudFix implements the Fixer?

Not applicable. Since CloudFix does not make purchases, rollback is not required. However, please note: any Savings Plan purchase made manually via AWS is non-refundable.

Can CloudFix implement the fix automatically once I accept the recommendation?

No. This is a manual process. CloudFix provides guidance and projected savings across all available options, but purchasing must be done directly in the AWS Console or via API.

Does the fix require downtime?

No. Purchasing a Savings Plan does not impact your infrastructure or workload availability. The change applies at the billing level.
