Lambda Purchase Savings Plans

AWS Resource Type:
AWS Lambda

Opportunity Description:

This Finder analyzes your historical Lambda usage (including GB-seconds and requests) and provides clear, quantified recommendations for purchasing 1-year AWS Compute Savings Plans to optimize compute costs. AWS offers discounts up to 17% on Lambda compute charges under Savings Plans, but no native recommendations are available — especially for serverless workloads.

CloudFix fills this gap by analyzing hourly Lambda usage, calculating coverage and utilization, and modeling savings under all three 1-year purchase options: No Upfront, Partial Upfront, and All Upfront.

Criteria for identifying the opportunity:

  • At least 30 days of detailed Lambda usage data is available in the AWS Cost and Usage Reports (CUR).

  • Usage data includes compute charges (GB-seconds) and provisioned concurrency (if applicable).

  • The optimal hourly Savings Plan commitment is derived from usage percentiles (10–15th percentile).

  • Only 1-year term Savings Plans are considered (3-year plans offer no additional discount).

  • Minimum cost thresholds are enforced to avoid low-value or overcommitted recommendations.

Potential Savings (Annual Estimate):

Savings vary depending on your workload, but customers with consistent Lambda usage can typically save:

  • 12% with No Upfront (1-year)

  • 15% with Partial Upfront (1-year)

  • 17% with All Upfront (1-year)

CloudFix calculates the optimal hourly commitment and estimates annual savings across all three options to help you choose the best balance of savings, coverage, and upfront cost.

What happens when the Fixer is executed?

CloudFix does not automatically purchase Savings Plans. The Finder produces a fully-detailed, auditable recommendation report with guidance on the best purchase option based on your Lambda usage history.

You can use this data to manually purchase the recommended Savings Plan in the AWS Console.

Is it possible to roll back once CloudFix implements the Fixer?

Not applicable. Savings Plan purchases are not performed by CloudFix. However, note that Savings Plan commitments are non-refundable once purchased through AWS.

Can CloudFix implement the fix automatically once I accept the recommendation?

No. This is a manual fix only. CloudFix will provide all the necessary calculations and context to support your purchase decision, but execution is left to your AWS administrators.

Does the fix require downtime?

No. Purchasing Savings Plans is a billing configuration. It does not affect workloads or cause any service interruption.
